Well, what can I say? It had to be done. Elton, who sensibly flew in at 4pm and straight out again after the concert by private jet, was fab. Shame about the audience!
A cypriot aquaintance commented rather disappointedly after the show that Sir Elton, as he was introduced, several times, did not hang around to savour the delights of the beautiful isle. Err, sensible man was all I could muster as a half-hearted reply and the humidity can't have done his piano his much good either. His wife was more concerned that the Mayor's accent had rather gone to seed, he was sounding a tad 'local' these days. 'Oh, is that who it was that rather obsequiously kept stressing the Sir bit, I thought it was one of the car park attendants!' And he is a local isn't he after all?
Well, as I said the concert was great and all the old favourites were there. During Candle in the Wind, (Marilyn version not Diana), a few of us attempted to hold up our fag lighters but the wind kept blowing them out but someone behind us did manage to light a sparkler and that was a bit of a highlight. At one point four of us got up to dance along to something and don't know if Elton could see us in the cheap seats, from the stage but am sure he appreciated it. He probably isn't use to such a comatose audience. And yes, we did embarrass ourselves by standing on the chairs and singing along to Crocodile Rock and Don't let the Sun go Down, at the end. Does the sun ever go down in Cyprus?
The friend who organised the tickets was rather miffed that she had been told that the seats at the back would be raised and, guess what? They weren't. Apparently, it was a fire hazard and the fire department warned against it. This did cause undue stress because she then ahd to worry about the cheap seats she has organised for Pavarotti in ten days time. What about those seats; are they going to be raised or not? Well, she got reassurances that whatever the fire department says the organisers of that gig are ignoring the advice and the cheap seats will be raised. No worries there then as I've got the expensive kind.
Can’t you just say what you mean? I don’t really understand all this. But I like the way you do it. I can surely learn a lot on your sites. Thanks
